Home automation is another way of saying smart heating and home security systems. It’s a series of heating and security devices which are connected via the internet and can include smart thermostats, boiler sensors, wireless cameras, motion detectors, sirens or alarms, locks and sensors which attach to doors and locks. In addition to security devices there are also sensors for detecting smoke, carbon monoxide and water leaks. These can be purchased and installed separately or together.
Once installed, they communicate with an app which can be monitored as alerts, photos or video on a smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer anywhere in the world. With some systems you can also control your home’s heating, lighting or appliances via your mobile phone.
There are many ‘out of the box’ home automation systems which claim quick and easy installation. Also, not all components could be of value to you with your home’s layout. It’s also easy for non-security experts to install cameras or motion detectors in the right places.
