An EPC for a commercial property shows a building’s energy efficiency rating using grades from A to G (A is the most efficient, G the least efficient) and estimates the amount of energy used and CO2 emissions.
A additional report is also produced including recommended energy performance improvements.
Displaying a Commercial EPC
EPCs must be displayed in commercial buildings under the following conditions:
- Buildings with over 250 square meters of useable floor space.
- The building is visited by the public.
- An EPC already exists for the premises sale, rental or construction.

A commercial EPC is valid for 10 years but is superseded if a newer EPC is produced.
A fine of between £500 and £5000 can be imposed if an EPC isn’t made available to prospective buyers or tenants. In most cases the fine is 12.5% of the rateable value of the building.
