This legislation requires compliance from landlords when employing electrical contractors to work in their premises.
Landlords must ensure that fixed wiring (Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)) checks are carried out at least every five years. This applies from 1st December 2015 for new tenancies entered into on or after this date (including current tenants signing a new lease) and from 1st December 2016 for existing tenancies.

Landlords need to ensure that electricians working within their private rented properties are competent and should either be members of SELECT or NICEIC, or be able to demonstrate competence by completing the checklist in Annex A of the Scottish Government guidance.
